Across both events, the Indians showed flashes of progress while also identifying areas that still need growth as the season continues.<\/p>\n<p>At the Olathe Northwest Quad, Manhattan finished third as a team behind Lawrence Free State and Olathe Northwest, while placing ahead of Blue Valley. The meet provided a solid early look at where the lineup stands against comparable competition.<\/p>\n<p>In singles, Jay Hoke led the group with a 2-1 record at No. 1 singles, earning a second-place finish. Henry He and Eli White each went 1-2 in their respective spots, both finishing third.<\/p>\n<p>Doubles play saw Zac Morgan and Samuel Byerly finish 1-2 at No. 1 doubles, good for third place. The No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams\u2014Luke Nichols and Ayavanth Natarajan, along with Ben Lee and Leonce Valentin\u2014both went 0-3, finishing fourth in their brackets.<\/p>\n<p>Two days later, Manhattan competed in a deeper field at the Doug Gayer Classic, finishing fifth overall with 36 team points out of 11 teams.<\/p>\n<p>Jay Hoke provided the top result of the weekend, going 4-0 to win the No. 1 singles title and improve to 9-1 on the season. His consistent play stood out throughout the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy forehand, serve, and return were working well,\u201d Hoke said.<\/p>\n<p>His wins came against opponents from Derby, Maize, Independence, and El Dorado, as he maintained control in each match.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere in singles, Ayavanth Natarajan went 0-2 before being forced to medically default due to an ankle injury suffered during his second match.<\/p>\n<p>In doubles, Morgan and Byerly finished 2-2 to place fourth, picking up wins over Maize and Independence before falling in a close tiebreak against McPherson Red. Luke Nichols and Ben Lee went 1-3 in their bracket, placing 13th overall.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the week, Manhattan also hosted its home invite on Tuesday, utilizing additional lineup depth to gain match experience across the roster. In that event, the Indians finished with a 9-3 team record, ahead of Marysville (7-5), Highland Park (5-7), and Junction City (3-9).<\/p>\n<p>Henry He led the way in singles, going 3-0 to take first place at No. 1 singles. Eli White followed with a 2-1 record, finishing second at No. 2 singles.<\/p>\n<p>In doubles, Leonce Valentin and Ben Lee went 2-1 to place second at No. 1 doubles, while Henry Byerly and Jackson Peschel matched that result with a 2-1 finish at No. 2 doubles, also earning second place.<\/p>\n<p>The Indians will be back in action Tuesday at the KC Invite at Harmon Park.
