{"id":203780,"date":"2026-04-20T20:38:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-20T20:38:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/203780\/"},"modified":"2026-04-20T20:38:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T20:38:08","slug":"radical-pro-communist-anti-israel-groups-push-nyc-council-to-vote-on-home-health-aide-bill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/203780\/","title":{"rendered":"Radical pro-communist, anti-Israel groups push NYC Council to vote on home health aide bill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A contentious City Council push to ban 24-hour shifts for home health aides is being propped up by radical left-wing groups who have shared pro-communist sentiments and vile anti-Israel rhetoric online, The Post has learned.<\/p>\n<p>Far-left Chinatown groups like the \u201cThe New York Young Communist League\u201d and \u201cYouth Against Displacement\u201d have campaigned, picketed and petitioned outside of City Hall in support of Lower Manhattan Councilman Chris Marte\u2019s \u201cNo More 24\u201d bill.<\/p>\n<p>The bill would repeal the 24-hour workday for the estimated 130,000 home care workers across the Big Apple by requiring criteria like providing a one-week notice and consent from the employee to work longer than 12 hours.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>NYC Councilmember Chris Marte introduced the \u201cNo More 24\u201d bill, which has been backed by groups sharing vile anti-Israel rhetoric and praising communist leaders  Daniel Efram\/ZUMA \/ SplashNews.com<\/p>\n<p>Youth Against Displacement, a group that was originally formed to fight displacement within Chinatown, described the Oct. 7 terrorist attack on Israeli civilians as \u201cchickens coming home to roost\u201d in a<a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@youthagainstdisplacement\/with-israels-escalation-of-war-against-palestine-the-mainstream-media-in-the-us-is-unanimously-6f4e1f1f6f4f\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> 2023 open letter published to Medium.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The group even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DLnQhP7ACZw\/?hl=en&amp;img_index=1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">previously promoted<\/a>\u00a0 a \u201cF\u2013k the Fourth\u201d Town Hall\u201d in 2025 that complained about the US being a \u201csettler colony\u201d and urging attendees to resist \u201cUS fascism and imperialism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The New York Communist League bills itself as a \u201ctraining ground\u201d for young people to convert the US into a communist society and has shared positive messages about communist dictators like Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong and the current Communist Party led government in China.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Youth Against Displacement was one of several groups who partnered with a \u201cF*ck the Fourth\u201d town hall in 2025.  wawog_now\/instagram<\/p>\n<p> Home care workers launched a hunger strike starting on Thursday, April 16, 2026. It takes time and sometimes the contradiction to capitalism must become starker for people to see,\u201d another post reads.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Another post claimed that it \u201cAlmost seems like the things about which the media have been trying for years to make us hate and fear China are actually bulls\u2013t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even though the bill has languished in the council the last few years, City Council Speaker Julie Menin has said the it could be brought to a vote this session as early as April.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Zohran Mamdani supported ending 24-hour shifts while serving in the state Assembly but has not committed to signing the bill as Hizzoner.<\/p>\n<p>Home health care workers have gone on strike, taking swipes at Mayor Mamdani for not pushing the bill. Xavier Diaz\/AdMedia\/MediaPunch\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<p>The bill originally promised to completely ban the 24-hour work week but changed the bill to add the one-week notice and consent policy after the mayor\u2019s office intervened, according to DocumentedNY.<\/p>\n<p>Activist groups supporting the legislation said that they would undertake a hunger strike to push for a vote \u2013 a thinly veiled swipe against Hizzoner, who went on a 15-day hunger strike with taxi drivers to rally against for debt forgiveness.<\/p>\n<p>The outlet also reported that Gov. Kathy Hochul has pressured the council to kill the bill because it could send Medicaid costs soaring.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Zohran Mamdani has come under fire from home health care workers for not committing support for the \u201cNo More 24\u201d bill.
