Duprey crashed his motorized scooter and died after Duran threw the cooler<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Thank you everyone for your prayers. I now look forward to seeing my family and fighting my appeal with the same determination I demonstrated throught my career in the NYPD,&#8221; Duran <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DXXfeBxjmjp\/?igsh=ZnpnMWU0eTQ0ZW04\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">wrote in an Instagram post<\/a>\u00a0that was posted to the union&#8217;s Instagram account.<\/p>\n<p>Duran was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ny1.com\/nyc\/all-boroughs\/news\/2026\/04\/09\/erik-duran-nypd-officer-in-cooler-throwing-death-sentencing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">sentenced to three to nine years in prison<\/a>\u00a0earlier this month for tossing a picnic cooler at a fleeing suspect, 30-year-old Eric Duprey, in 2023.
