Instead, one more trip to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/sites\/cardinal-sports\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Louisville<\/a> was all it took to make his decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI already knew I loved it there,\u201d Maxey told Rivals. \u201cThey were already a top school for me going into the visit, and when I got back up there, everything just felt right again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That feeling led to a commitment \u2014 one he made in person, inside the facility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was like, what better place to commit than right in front of the head coach?\u201d Maxey said. \u201cIt was great to tell Coach Brohm in person. I knew I was ready.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/join\/?utm_source=publisher&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=subscriber_referral&amp;ref=33\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">[ $19.99 gets you a FULL year of On3 | Rivals national coverage ]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Even before his most recent visit, Maxey had a strong sense of where things were headed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had that gut feeling for about a month that Louisville is where I need to be,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>That feeling only grew stronger once he got back on campus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I got up there again, it just came back,\u201d Maxey said. \u201cI knew that was the place for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maxey was favoring the Cardinals after his first visit<\/p>\n<p>Louisville made its move early.<\/p>\n<p>After offering during the winter recruiting period, the staff quickly got Maxey on campus, and the connection built from there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe coaches have been recruiting me the hardest,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd the offense suits me perfectly. That was big for me. The combination of the staff, how they recruited me, the offense and what Coach Brohm is doing with the program made it the right decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/coach\/jeff-brohm-133414\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jeff Brohm<\/a> and his offensive system played a major role in the decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s an offensive mastermind,\u201d Maxey said. \u201cThe offense he runs is one of the best in college football, and that\u2019s something I want to be a part of.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At 6-foot-2, 205 pounds, Maxey sees himself as a big-bodied wide receiver at the next level \u2014 and Louisville showed him exactly how he fits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019ve proven they can use guys with my skill set,\u201d he said. \u201cSeeing how they used receivers like me and how they can develop me was huge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Relationships played a role in Maxey\u2019s decision<\/p>\n<p>The relationships inside the program sealed it.<\/p>\n<p>Wide receivers coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/deion-branch-148363\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Deion Branch<\/a> and assistant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/mason-petrino-84844\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mason Petrino<\/a> led the charge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCoach Branch and Coach Petrino have been on me hard,\u201d Maxey said. \u201cThey\u2019ve been calling me multiple times a week and really building that relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose connections, and how Coach Branch has done it at the highest level. He knows what it takes to get to the NFL, and that\u2019s someone I can learn from.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/teams\/alabama-crimson-tide\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alabama<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/sites\/eagle-action\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Boston College<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/teams\/kansas-state-wildcats\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kansas State<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/teams\/kentucky-wildcats\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kentucky<\/a> were in the mix, but in the end, everything aligned \u2014 development, scheme, relationships and opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI already knew football-wise it was the best place for me to develop and have a chance to play early,\u201d Maxey said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Brooklyn Maxey didn\u2019t need to wait.
