NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. — A driver was arrested for aggravated driving while intoxicated after a traffic stop on State Route 840.<\/p>\n

A New Hartford Police Stop DWI Enforcement Officer stopped a dark-colored van around 1 p.m. on Monday after seeing it enter eastbound traffic from Middle Settlement Road without signaling and speeding well above the posted limit.<\/p>\n

Police said the van continued to drive erratically, changing lanes without signaling and accelerating onto State Route 12 Northbound before finally pulling over near the French Road exit ramp, nearly hitting a guardrail.<\/p>\n

Officers identified the driver as Devon Eaton, 24, of Staten Island, who was the only person in the vehicle.<\/p>\n

Police said Eaton showed signs of impairment, including the smell of alcohol, and failed field sobriety tests.<\/p>\n

Eaton was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of .08% or more, aggravated DWI with a BAC of .18% or more, illegal signal, speeding in excess of 55 mph and no seat belt for a driver or passenger over 16.<\/p>\n
