A Queens community comes together in prayer and fellowship.<\/p>\n
The event was held at Maranatha Baptist Church in Queens Village on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n
It was organized by state Assemblywoman Alicia Hyndman and Assemblyman Clyde Vanel.<\/p>\n
It follows the shooting death of a 15-year-old boy in Roy Wilkins Park.<\/p>\n
The event allowed residents to discuss their concerns, from gun violence to the increased cost of living.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe folks [know,who] are here today, they don\u2019t wanna just talk, they want to be engaged in activities to make change,\u201d Queens state Sen. Leroy Comrie said.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo talk about what works, what more do we need to do to make sure our young people feel engaged, feel safe and protected,\u201d Hyndman said.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou know when you talk about the cost-of-living today, it is higher than ever. Just go to the gas pump and you’ll see people are paying close to $5 a gallon. Food is up, clothing is up, housing is up, but we want them to know that we\u2019ve gotta hang on,\u201d Queens Rep. Gregory Meeks said.<\/p>\n
The event was meant to foster connection and collaboration among community stakeholders.<\/p>\n
