Fernandez was an assistant on Michael Malone&#8217;s staff with the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"c4aceb39-0eb9-a30b-1120-9cb5b12b677a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/den\/denver-nuggets\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Denver Nuggets<\/a> from 2016 to 2022 after seven years in the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"ec79ad1f-e6d2-7762-a2db-7fe97d35126b\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/cle\/cleveland-cavaliers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cleveland Cavaliers<\/a>&#8216; organization.<\/p>\n<p>During his first season with the Nets, the team hovered around .500 before trading away <a data-player-guid=\"ed50e972-a95d-6b5c-3fcd-0d75616d1159\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/3032979\/dennis-schroder\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dennis Schroder<\/a> and <a data-player-guid=\"e05f4c3a-a0a6-e87f-d752-a5c092b7f474\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/2578185\/dorian-finney-smith\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dorian Finney-Smith<\/a> in December 2024. Brooklyn lost 15 of 17 games after Dec. 27 and later had a stretch where the Nets lost 16 of 18 games en route to finishing 26-56 that season.<\/p>\n<p>The Nets finished this past season with the NBA&#8217;s youngest roster, half of which is under 24 years old and included a league-record five players selected in the first round of the 2025 draft.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\" lazyload lazyload\" data-image-container=\".inline-photo\" height=\"320\" width=\"570\"\/>Jordi Fernandez guided the Nets, who finished the season with the NBA&#8217;s youngest roster, to a 20-62 record. The team has 13 first-round picks available in the next seven years, including nine that can be traded. It also has 19 second-rounders.\u00a0Jordan Bank\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Fernandez&#8217;s assistants include Steve Hetzel, Juwan Howard, Jay Hernandez, Dutch Gaitley, Deividas Dulkys, Ryan Forehan-Kelly, Connor Griffin, Corey Vinson and Travis Bader.<\/p>\n<p>The offseason presents an opportunity for Brooklyn to improve significantly. Heading into the May 10 lottery, there is a 40% chance that the Nets select in the top three for the first time since 2010. For the second straight offseason, the Nets will have over $30 million in cap space to use in trades or in free agency.<\/p>\n<p>The Nets finished the season 27th in defense but showed a blueprint for success during a 15-game stretch in late November and December, during which the Nets ranked second in defense and allowed the fewest 3s, offensive rebounds and points.<\/p>\n<p>Brooklyn also has 13 first-round picks available over the next seven years, including nine that can be traded.
