{"id":20473,"date":"2025-10-28T22:26:23","date_gmt":"2025-10-28T22:26:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/20473\/"},"modified":"2025-10-28T22:26:23","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T22:26:23","slug":"how-to-find-a-hot-meal-or-food-pantry-in-manhattan-amid-the-snap-freeze","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/20473\/","title":{"rendered":"How to find a hot meal or food pantry in Manhattan amid the SNAP freeze"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<img width=\"1200\" height=\"798\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/GettyImages-1767968842.jpg\" class=\"crop-center wp-post-image\" alt=\"Community organizations are bracing for a surge in demand at city food banks as a potential SNAP funding lapse threatens aid for 1.8 million New York City residents\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"   title=\"How to find a hot meal or food pantry in Manhattan amid the SNAP freeze 1\"\/>\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Community organizations are bracing for a surge in demand at city food banks as a potential SNAP funding lapse threatens aid for 1.8 million New York City residents <\/p>\n<p>Photo by Getty Images <\/p>\n<p>New Yorkers who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, could see their benefits cut off starting Saturday.\n<\/p>\n<p>The withholding of federal funds that support the program for 42 million Americans, including about 1.8 million New York City residents, during the ongoing government shutdown is now the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amny.com\/news\/snap-benefits-new-york-lawsuit-trump-shutdown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> subject of a federal lawsuit.<\/a> A ruling is expected by Friday, Oct. 31.<\/p>\n<p>Food banks and pantries across the city, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityharvest.org\/2025\/07\/02\/joint-statement-in-response-to-the-new-york-city-budget\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">already strained by earlier federal funding<\/a> cuts this year, are bracing for a surge in demand if the pause in food aid for low-income residents takes effect as planned on Nov. 1.<\/p>\n<p>The New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance said it will notify SNAP households by Saturday about the status of their November benefits.\n<\/p>\n<p>Year-round, soup kitchens and food pantries help feed New Yorkers in need, and there are many ways to find them across the city.\n<\/p>\n<p>The city offers an interactive map of food resources, including kosher, halal, mobile, and HIV-specific options, at <a href=\"https:\/\/finder.nyc.gov\/foodhelp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">finder.nyc.gov\/foodhelp.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>The Food Bank for New York City lists\u00a0hunger relief sites at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foodbanknyc.org\/get-help\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">foodbanknyc.org\/get-help<\/a>, while Hunger Free America provides neighborhood-by-neighborhood guides in English, Spanish, Russian, French, Chinese, and Polish at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/hungerfreeamerica.org\/en-us\/neighborhood-guides-to-food%E2%80%93assistance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">hungerfreeamerica.org\/en-us\/neighborhood\u2013guides\u2013to\u2013food\u2013assistance<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/hungerfreeamerica.org\/en-us\/neighborhood-guides-to-food%E2%80%93assistance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>City Harvest also offers a searchable map of soup kitchens, food pantries, mobile markets, and distribution partners at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityharvest.org\/food-map\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">cityharvest.org\/food-map.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>New Yorkers can also call 311 for help locating the nearest food pantry or meal program.\n<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the food banks and pantries across Manhattan that are keeping New Yorkers fed.
