Kathy Hochul says the Trump administration owes New Yorkers $13.5 billion because of tariffs and called for $1,700 refunds for New York families.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The federal government began accepting refund applications from businesses Monday over President Trump\u2019s tariffs, which were deemed illegal by the U.S. Supreme Court. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wwnytv.com\/2026\/04\/21\/trump-tariff-refund-portal-launches-businesses\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wwnytv.com\/2026\/04\/21\/trump-tariff-refund-portal-launches-businesses\/\">More than $160 billion could be paid back to businesses<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Hochul said New Yorkers were saddled with additional costs from the tariffs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI\u2019m not gonna stop fighting for those families to get relief &#8211; every day New Yorkers, farmers, and families,\u201d Hochul said. \u201cLike I said, buying groceries, going about their lives, are paying more because of an illegal tariff scheme. They deserve their money back and we\u2019re gonna continue fighting for that. And we\u2019re in court to secure that as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Customs and Border Protection is running the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/document\/guidance\/cbp-modernizes-electronic-refund-enrollment-process\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/document\/guidance\/cbp-modernizes-electronic-refund-enrollment-process\">refund portal<\/a>. The agency estimates the money will go out 60 to 90 days after an application is approved.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Trump administration is signaling it may try to delay or reduce refunds.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 WWNY.
