Another major NYC roadway will get upgrades: What to know<\/p>\n
BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) \u2014 A portion of a busy Brooklyn roadway will get a makeover.<\/p>\n
New bus lanes and safety improvements are planned for a part of Linden Boulevard, city officials announced on Tuesday.\u00a0The major thoroughfare will be redesigned between Fountain Avenue and Conduit Avenue.<\/p>\n

Flatbush Avenue<\/a> will undergo a major redesign that includes bus lanes along the center of the roadway. Work is also expected to be done around Grand Army Plaza<\/a> with streamlined bus lanes and safety improvements for pedestrians and cyclists.<\/p>\n The Linden Boulevard project includes dedicated bus loading zones, along with wider medians and crosswalks for pedestrians.<\/p>\n \u201cThis project will deliver faster, more reliable buses for the 60,000 New Yorkers who rely on them every day \u2014 parents getting their kids to school, workers trying to clock in on time, families picking up groceries on the way home,\u201d said Mayor Zohran Mamdani.<\/p>\n The project is scheduled to begin in late 2026 with eight new bus boarding islands that will also serve as pedestrian refuge islands. They can be used to shorten crossing distances.<\/p>\n Five access lanes will be closed or redesigned to improve safety and streamline bus services.<\/p>\n Buses affected by the redesign include the B13, B14, B15, B20, BM5, and Q8. Those bus lines connect to the A, C, J, Z, L, and No. 3 subway lines.<\/p>\n Stay connected with community stories that matter: Visit our homepage <\/a><\/p>\n The average speed of the bus lines can be as low as 4 mph, according to the MTA.<\/p>\n \u201cThe proposal will help bring much-needed safety and order to Linden Boulevard, deliver faster buses for tens of thousands of New Yorkers, and better connect neighborhoods long divided by this wide roadway,\u201d said NYC DOT Commissioner Mike Flynn.<\/p>\n The Linden Boulevard redesign is expected to be completed in 2027, according to the NYC DOT.<\/p>\n Andrew Cruz is a digital content producer.
