Mayoral front-runner Zohran Mamdani<\/a>\u00a0once made a vile\u00a0pronouncement\u00a0tying the NYPD\u00a0with\u00a0the Israeli military,\u00a0a shocking video that resurfaced Tuesday reveals.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to make clear that when the boot of the NYPD is on your neck, it\u2019s been laced by the IDF,\u201d\u00a0the Queens assemblyman said in 2023, referring to the Israel Defense Forces.<\/p>\n

The comparison\u00a0\u2013 which Mamdani made during a panel at the\u00a02023 Democratic Socialists of America\u2019s national convention, where he was the keynote\u00a0speaker\u00a0\u2013\u00a0drew white-hot criticism from many cops and Jewish New Yorkers, who called out the arguably\u00a0antisemitic connotation.<\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes it\u2019s hard to tell if Zohran hates Jews more than he hates cops or if he hates cops more than he hates Jews,\u201d said Kalman Yeger, a fellow state assemblyman who represents the heavily Jewish 41st District in southern Brooklyn.<\/p>\n

Mamdani\u2019s\u00a0cringey,\u00a0conspiracy-tinged\u00a0remark unfolded as he sat on a DSA panel discussion titled \u201cSocialist Internationalism: The Solution to the Crisis of Capitalism,\u201d during which he said it was important to connect \u201chyperlocal\u201d and \u201cinternational issues\u201d with residents.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are in a country where those connections abound. Especially in New York City, you have so many opportunities to make clear the ways in which that struggle over there is tied to capitalist interests over here,\u201d\u00a0he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor anyone to care about these issues, we have to make them connected,\u201d\u00a0he continued,\u00a0before typing the oppressive \u201cboot\u201d of the NYPD to the IDF.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to make it materially connected to their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

The revelation comes as Mamdani, the Democratic nominee, has just seven days to seal his ascension to City Hall in the Nov. 4 election \u2013 in part by distancing himself from his police bashing comments.<\/p>\n

Mamdani deflected when asked on Tuesday if he stood by his NYPD-IDF comments.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve said time and again that with public safety, I\u2019m looking forward to working with police officers here in New York City to deliver it, and I\u2019m looking forward to ensuring that we actually tackle the retention crisis at hand.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut we now have about 350 officers leaving the department every month, and that is something we will bring to an end by ensuring that police officers are only asked to do the work of a police department, not the work of social services as they have it,\u201d Mamdani said.<\/p>\n

The progressive firebrand has tried to make nice with the nation\u2019s largest police department and its supporters,\u00a0retreating from tweets<\/a>\u00a0made in 2020 when he called the NYPD \u201cracist, anti-queer & a major threat to public safety\u201d and backed \u201cdefund the police.\u201d<\/p>\n

With the mayoralty within his grasp, he said would\u00a0retain Jessica Tisch as police commissioner<\/a>\u00a0and cast his past anti-police tweets as a reaction to the murder of George Floyd.<\/p>\n

But the 2023 video shows Mamdani still looked askance at the NYPD years after Floyd\u2019s death sparked outrage and a racial reckoning \u2013 as noted by one police source.<\/p>\n

\u201cTake note this is only two years ago,\u201d the source said. \u201cMore of the same intersectionality \u2013 the ever-expanding mumbo-jumbo of everything is about everything. Never at a loss for useful idiots.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Many police veterans, such as the city\u2019s\u00a0longest-serving top cop Ray Kelly<\/a>, already weren\u2019t buying Mamdani\u2019s back-the-blue pivot.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt just underscores how unfit he is to be mayor!\u201d Kelly, who\u00a0endorsed ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo<\/a>\u00a0on Monday, said about the video.<\/p>\n

Former NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton opined that Mamdani\u2019s remark reflects the democratic socialist pol\u2019s lifelong dislike of the police department.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis views are out of touch with a majority of New Yorkers and Israelis,\u201d Bratton said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe IDF is highly admired by the citizens of Israel and the NYPD is highly admired by the citizens of New York,\u201d Bratton said.<\/p>\n

Mamdani, a vocal critic of Israel, has also faced significant fears from many Jewish leaders, including hundreds of rabbis nationwide who signed a letter expressing alarm over \u201crising anti-Zionism.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rabbi Elliot Cosgrove of the Park Avenue Synagogue on the Upper East Side, called Mamdani\u2019s rhetoric \u201cdeeply reckless.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTo claim that the NYPD is \u2018on your neck\u2019 and that its \u2018boot is laced by the IDF\u2019 is the recycling of a dangerous conspiracy theory: that Jews and the Jewish state are the hidden hand behind oppression everywhere,\u201d said Cosgrove, who recently urged his congregation to back Cuomo<\/a> over Mamdani.<\/p>\n

\u201cNew Yorkers deserve leaders who shine light rather than cast shadows, who build coalitions rather than scapegoat Jews,\u201d he told The Post on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Rabbi Joseph Potasnik, executive vice president of the New York Board of Rabbis, said nothing shocks him anymore.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s another statement by Mamdani that crosses the line and is totally false,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe sad part of it is you can make fallacious statements like this with some people and get away with it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Republican mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa called Mamdani\u2019s NYPD and IDF bashing \u201coutrageous.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s part of his anti-cop dogma. It\u2019s part of the hatred he has projected toward the police. He conflates the two [NYPD and IDF] and he should apologize,\u201d Sliwa said.<\/p>\n

Mamdani has condemned antisemitism and reached out to the Jewish community, promising to represent all New Yorkers, if elected.<\/p>\n
