Waxahatchee and MJ Lenderman took their co-headline tour<\/a> to Brooklyn, N.Y. on Sunday for a performance at the Brooklyn Paramount. In a comforting living room set lined with lamps and a plush dog, the indie-Americana trailblazers pooled their talents for a review of their celebrated repertoires, followed by an encore of covers.<\/p>\n

Following an opening set from alt-country singer-songwriter Brennan Wedl, who welcomed Waxahatchee for \u201cWill You Still Want Me When The Crazy Comes Out?,\u201d the headlining duo took the stage with support from Cole Berggren on banjo and keyboard and Colin Croom on pedal steel, lap steel and electric guitar. Waxhatchee and Lenderman alternated between their songs for the entirety of the main set, beginning with \u201cManning Fireworks,\u201d the title track from Lenderman\u2019s 2024 album, and Waxahatchee\u2019s Tigers Blood cut \u201cEvil Spawn.\u201d<\/p>\n

Waxahatchee and Lenderman went on to introduce \u201cBrawson\u2019s,\u201d a new Lenderman original, and cover Gillian Welch\u2019s \u201cWrecking Ball\u201d before their intimate, laid-back set culminated in a closer of \u201cRight Back to It,\u201d the artists\u2019 duet from Tigers Blood. The band returned for an encore with Iris DeMent\u2019s \u201cMy Life,\u201d then called Wedl up to support treatments of Lucinda Williams\u2019 \u201cAbandoned,\u201d The Jayhawks\u2019 \u201cAll the Right Reasons\u201d and Kathleen Edwards\u2019 \u201cSix O\u2019Clock News.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last year, Lenderman and Waxahatchee connected for Snocaps, the surprise-released self-titled debut of a new project from twin sisters Katie and Allison Crutchfield, with backing from Lenderman and Brad Cook, who has been Waxahatchee\u2019s go-to producer since 2020\u2019s Saint Cloud. All four artists play multiple instruments across tracks that merge the sisters\u2019 songwriting styles in a tangle of glowy, heavy, warm indie rock, with some subtle hints of their power-pop and punk background and Katie\u2019s current country leanings.
