NEW YORK (WBNG) — Congressman Nick Langworthy is calling on New York State officials to crack down on illegally issued driver\u2019s licenses. <\/p>\n
According to Langworthy, a federal audit found that New York State improperly issued commercial driver\u2019s licenses and permits to foreign drivers. <\/p>\n
Langworthy also claims that Hochul has failed to take action to revoke the licenses, resulting in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration revoking $73 million from the state\u2019s highway funding. <\/p>\n
\u201cAnd instead of working with the Federal Department of Transportation after multiple attempts to get cooperation, Governor Hochul has simply refused,\u201d said Langworthy. \u201cShe would rather punish New Yorkers and lose $73 million in federal funding than comply with a law that is designed to keep our roadways safe.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a letter to the governor, Langworthy called for her to comply with federal CDL requirements, implement safeguards to ensure verification and compliance with federal requirements, and to restore New York\u2019s eligibility for federal transportation funding. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe people of New York deserve the highest standard of safety on our roads,\u201d the congressman said. \u201cThis should not be partisan. It is about protecting lives, protecting businesses, and respecting the taxpayers who deserve better than a reckless political agenda that puts their tax dollars and safety at risk.\u201d <\/p>\n
