Kate Middleton joined her family in commemorating Queen Elizabeth’s 100th birthday at Buckingham Palace. To honor the special occasion, the Princess of Wales<\/a> wore some jewelry items with some historical and emotional weight to them, with the pieces serving as some of the Queen’s favorite jewelry items that she wore throughout her life.\u00a0<\/p>\n

King Charles<\/a> commemorated the Queen’s birthday by inviting several people turning 100 to Buckingham Palace, where they received centenary birthday cards, a British tradition, from the King himself. These guests included representatives from the Queen’s patronages, including Cancer Research U.K., British Red Cross Society, Jockey Club, Royal Kennel Club, and more.<\/p>\n

It was a joyous occasion, with Charles<\/a> celebrating his mother’s life and achievements. In a video message shared by the BBC, Charles opened up about his “darling mama,” describing her as someone who lived through “remarkable change and yet, through each passing decade, through every transformation, she remained constant, steadfast and wholly devoted to the people she served”.<\/p>\n

The Princess of Wales<\/a> was one of the occasion’s most discussed figures, looking stunning in an Emilia Wickstead pink dress that she paired with beautiful and delicate accessories, including a set of pearls that were once owned by the Queen.\u00a0<\/p>\n

One of these items were the Bahrain Pearl Drop earrings, which Kate wore as a tribute to her late grandmother-in-law. The earrings used to be some of Elizabeth’s favorites, with her wearing them to galas and on some of her official portraits when she was a young Queen.<\/p>\n

Through the years, the pearl earrings have been lent out to other royals and family connections, worn on special occasions. The pearl earrings have been adopted by Middleton for the past decade, with them becoming a staple of her wardrobe. She wore them to the Queen’s funeral<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The royals rarely give out interviews, but Middleton has previously spoken about her relationship with the Queen. For the documentary, “Our Queen at Ninety,” which celebrated her 90th birthday, Middleton shared the story of the first time they met. \u00a0\u201cI can remember being at Sandringham for the first time, at Christmas. And I was worried what to give the Queen as her Christmas present. I was thinking, \u2018Gosh, what should I give her?\u2019\u201d she said, as reported by Town & Country.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought back to what I would give my own grandparents. And I thought, \u2018I\u2019ll make her something,\u2019 which could have gone horribly wrong. But I decided to make my granny\u2019s recipe of chutney. I was slightly worried about it, but I noticed the next day that it was on the table. I think such a simple gesture went such a long way for me.\u201d<\/p>\n
