{"id":207377,"date":"2026-04-23T16:50:16","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T16:50:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/207377\/"},"modified":"2026-04-23T16:50:16","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T16:50:16","slug":"student-15-who-scrawled-swastika-at-long-island-school-had-explosives-at-home-paid-for-by-dad-cops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/207377\/","title":{"rendered":"Student, 15, who scrawled swastika at Long Island school had explosives at home \u2014 paid for by dad: cops"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cops investigating a Long Island teen over a swastika scrawled in his high school found homemade bombs in his home \u2014 and busted his dad for buying the dangerous chemicals used to make them, according to authorities.<\/p>\n<p>The 15-year-old student allegedly drew the hate symbol at Syosset High School, prompting Nassau County police to visit his home at around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, when they found \u201cseveral chemicals\u201d that had been \u201ccombined to make explosive materials,\u201d the department said.<\/p>\n<p>Francisco Sanles and his son were arrested in connection with the alleged bomb materials. NCPD<\/p>\n<p>The teen was arrested alongside his father, Francisco Sanles, 48, who on \u201cmultiple occasions paid for the purchase of the various chemicals,\u201d the department said.<\/p>\n<p>Police shut down Patricia Lane, a quiet, residential street, for much of the day, as video showed several unknown chemicals being removed from the home and lined up in the front yard,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/abc7ny.com\/post\/bomb-squad-destroys-potentially-dangerous-chemicals-found-syosset-home-nassau-county\/18948678\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">ABC 7 reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The bomb squad said the chemicals were too hazardous to move as they had been combined to create explosives and destroyed them on site.<\/p>\n<p>Neighboring houses shook, and a loud boom was heard as the unidentified materials were safely exploded.<\/p>\n<p>The elder Sanles was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of criminal facilitation, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and reckless endangerment.<\/p>\n<p>Bomb squad officers were scrambled to a Long Island home on Wednesday. Kyle Mazza\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<p>His son \u2014 who was not otherwise identified bacause of his age \u2014 was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, criminal mischief, aggravated harassment and making graffiti.<\/p>\n<p>They are due in court separately on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The FBI helped with Wednesday\u2019s investigation, but said the case is now in the hands of Nassau County deputies.<\/p>\n<p>The school district sent an email to students and staff on Wednesday night following the incident.<\/p>\n<p>Cops were first called after a swastika was found scrawled on the wall of Syosset High School. The District immediately commenced an investigation and notified the Nassau County Police Department,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur investigation identified the person responsible and this is now a criminal matter with an active police investigation. We are cooperating fully with our partners in law enforcement and remain in constant contact with them as their investigation continues,\u201d the statement continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis student will also face serious consequences pursuant to the District\u2019s Code of Conduct.
