STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.\u2014 The Staten Island Half Marathon has been officially canceled due to inclement weather, according to the New York Road Runners.<\/p>\n
Forecasters are expressing high confidence that this weekend\u2019s storms will cause coastal flooding<\/a>.<\/p>\n In a press release today, the NYRR announced: \u201cIn consultation with our city agency partners, due to forecasted high winds, heavy rain, and flooding, New York Road Runners has canceled Sunday\u2019s NYRR Staten Island Half. The safety of all participants, volunteers, and staff is our top priority. Due to limited available dates, the race will not be rescheduled. We apologize for any inconvenience.\u201d<\/p>\n The sold-out race was expected to feature nearly 10,000 runners from across the five boroughs and beyond, including members of NYRR\u2019s Team Inspire\u2014among them Staten Islander Lisa Swan\u2014and Jersey Shore personality and Island native Vinny Guadagnino.<\/p>\n All eyes in the Staten Island running community will now turn to the New York City Marathon on Nov. 2, which famously begins on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.<\/p>\n If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
