MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) – The Sunflower Showdown returns this weekend as No. 16 Kansas baseball travels to face K-State in a three-game series at Tointon Family Stadium.<\/p>\n
First pitch is set for Friday at 6 p.m. CT, followed by Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur guys will certainly be prepared for the environment,\u201d Kansas head coach Dan Fitzgerald said. \u201cI think we\u2019ll be prepared baseballwise because we\u2019ve played a really tough slate. The guys will be fired up. It\u2019s a great Kansas State team and obviously an in-state rival. It\u2019s something we\u2019re really looking forward to.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kansas (30-11, 14-4 Big 12) enters the weekend in first place in the Big 12 after winning 14 of its last 15 games and 20 of its last 23. The Jayhawks are coming off a 9-7 win over No. 20 Nebraska and a road series win at Oklahoma State.<\/p>\n
K-State (26-15, 9-9 Big 12) is tied for sixth in the league standings and returns home after taking a series at Arizona and winning at Grand Canyon. The Wildcats have gone 4-2 in their last six Big 12 games.<\/p>\n
Kansas leads the all-time series 200-189-1 and has won the last four meetings, though most recent matchups have been close, with 11 of the last 15 decided by three runs or fewer.<\/p>\n
Pitching matchups include Kansas right-hander Mathis Vayral (4-2, 4.09 ERA) against K-State\u2019s James Guyette (5-1, 5.10 ERA) on Friday, followed by Kansas right-hander Dominic Voegele (4-2, 7.52 ERA) versus K-State left-hander Lincoln Sheffield (6-1, 5.07 ERA) on Saturday.<\/p>\n
All three games will stream on ESPN+, with radio coverage on KLWN for Kansas and KMAN\/K-State Sports Network for Kansas State.<\/p>\n
