“I support the mayor\u2019s decision to veto Intro 175-B as written. It\u2019s easy to understand the desire to protect students and faculty in our educational spaces \u2013 but it\u2019s also easy to see how this bill\u2019s broad language and definitions could ultimately limit the very values and ideals\u00a0we we are trying to teach young people,\u00a0and have a chilling effect\u00a0at a time when we need more of them speaking out, not less.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“I understand the valid concerns about intimidation or violence from some New Yorkers.\u00a0Protections against such abuses are important \u2013 at the same time, this bill would have stripped some fundamental rights in the name of defending others.
