On Tuesday, May 19, the cult Japanese women\u2019s pro-wrestling league <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sukeban.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Sukeban<\/a> is returning to New York City, and they&#8217;re ready to rumble with enough neon, leather and high-flying chaos to rattle the rafters of the iconic Hammerstein Ballroom.<\/p>\n<p>Named after the rebellious girl gangs of \u201860s and \u201870s Japan, Sukeban is a mix of punk, high-fashion and world-class martial arts in one electric event. It\u2019s a wildly theatrical spectacle that has already conquered London, Berlin and TikTok\u2014and now, it\u2019s New York\u2019s turn for the most ambitious production yet.<\/p>\n<p>The five-match card is a heavy-hitting lineup of 22 wrestlers from Tokyo\u2019s most notorious stables: the Harajuku Stars, Dangerous Liaisons,\u00a0 Cherry Bomb Girls, Tokyo Toys and Vandals. There&#8217;s an All-Star Tag Team match, and the stakes are high for the main event when reigning champ Ichigo Sayaka defends her belt against her bitter rival, Queen of Hearts in\u00a0the Sukeban World Championship Match. The night will also include surprise cameos, performances and mind-bending visuals from the Tokyo creative unit Margt.<\/p>\n<p>The ladies of Sukeban are not your standard spandex-clad wrestlers. Their getups are as lethal as the dropkicks, and the evening features a &#8220;Who\u2019s Who&#8221; of the fashion elite, like costume designers Vanna Youngstein and Miss Claire Sullivan. They&#8217;ll sport makeup by the legendary Pat McGrath team, nail art by Mei Kawajiri and bespoke millinery from Stephen Jones. The Cherry Bomb Girls will debut all-new costumes co-created by official footwear partner Nike.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This event set to be a crowd-pleaser for all types, with the sheer athleticism of the Tokyo roster plus the front-row fashion vibes.
