{"id":209140,"date":"2026-04-25T02:10:41","date_gmt":"2026-04-25T02:10:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/209140\/"},"modified":"2026-04-25T02:10:41","modified_gmt":"2026-04-25T02:10:41","slug":"eric-swalwell-sics-private-eye-on-ex-aides","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/209140\/","title":{"rendered":"Eric Swalwell sics private eye on ex-aides"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/24\/us-news\/eric-swalwells-190k-post-scandal-cash-surge-raises-new-questions\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Disgraced congressman Eric Swalwell<\/a> has reportedly unleashed a private investigator on former staffers who could have knowledge of his alleged sex crimes \u2014 as one ex-aide teams up with the Manhattan District Attorney on its investigation of him.<\/p>\n<p>Swalwell\u2019s hotshot attorney Sara Azari hired a professional snoop from New York firm Beau Dietl &amp; Associates to question at least one former aide to the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/15\/us-news\/eric-swalwells-hotel-charges-may-be-a-damning-paper-trail\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">former congressman<\/a> about their time in his office, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.notus.org\/courts\/swalwell-private-investigators-former-staff\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NOTUS reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Swalwell\u2019s attorney Sara Azari denied there was any mention of subpoenas.  Threads\/@azarilaw<\/p>\n<p>The private eye reportedly told the ex-staffer she wanted to \u201cget to the bottom\u201d of what happened with Swalwell by speaking with his former colleagues and that she\u2019d be able to avoid a subpoena if the staffer cooperated with the questioning. <\/p>\n<p>The ex-staffer was uncomfortable with the request and ended the call, the site reported. <\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSign up for the California Morning Report newsletter\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCalifornia&#8217;s top news, sports and entertainment delivered to your inbox every day.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Azari said the report was not accurate and that \u201cnobody working on Eric\u2019s behalf has approached any witness mentioning a subpoena.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Swalwell has not been charged or sued on the \u201cfalse allegations,\u201d she noted, and therefore has no subpoena power. <\/p>\n<p>Azari, who<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/15\/us-news\/eric-swalwells-hotshot-lawyer-comes-out-swinging-regret-is-not-rape\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> took to the airwaves<\/a> on Swalwell\u2019s behalf declaring \u201cregret is not rape,\u201d has been paid at least $40,000 by Swalwell\u2019s defunct campaign for governor.<\/p>\n<p>The payment was revealed in a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/24\/us-news\/eric-swalwells-190k-post-scandal-cash-surge-raises-new-questions\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">new trove of campaign filings through April 18<\/a>. Swalwell ended his campaign for governor April 12 after being accused of raping an ex-staffer after a 2024 charity event in New York while she was intoxicated, and sexually harassing multiple other women.<\/p>\n<p>Lonna Drewes accused Swalwell of drugging and raping her at a Los Angeles hotel. CBS News<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese allegations of sexual assault are flat false,\u201d the doomed California governor candidate said in a<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepSwalwell\/status\/2042800069334962405\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> social media<\/a> video posted April 10. \u201cThey are absolutely false.
