ARVERNE, Queens (PIX11) \u2014 Plans are underway for a residential building that will contain affordable housing in the Rockaways, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Friday.<\/p>\n
The $278 million project is being built on vacant land that was affected by Superstorm Sandy.<\/p>\n
For more on what\u2019s happening in your area, head to our homepage <\/a><\/p>\n Known as Averne East Building D, the building will contain 230 affordable rental units and 90 affordable co-op units.<\/p>\n Multiple indoor and outdoor amenities, including outdoor terraces, a lounge, a playroom, and a gym, among others, will be available at the apartment building.<\/p>\n Building D is the first phase of a 166-acre complex that will contain a total of 1,650 apartments and townhomes, 80% of which will be set aside for affordable housing.<\/p>\n \u201cThe latest phase of Arverne East will give more New Yorkers the opportunity to own affordable, sustainable and resilient homes,\u201d Hochul said.<\/p>\n Building D will be a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments. A section of the building will be affordable co-op units for households earning up to 100 % of the area median income.<\/p>\n The apartment building is expected to be environmentally friendly with solar panels and will have geothermal heating and cooling for the facility.<\/p>\n Discover more local reporting on our homepage <\/a><\/p>\n Considering the building is located in the Rockaways, it will also be resilient to flooding.
