Tonight will be variably cloudy with spotty showers possible. Lows will be in the 30s and low 40s, with 20s across the Adirondacks.<\/p>\n

Unsettled weather returns to the forecast as rain chances increase Saturday. Highs will be in the 40s and 50s.<\/p>\n

The rainiest weather looks to be around Central New York, the Finger Lakes and the Southern Tier. Drier and quieter weather will prevail across the North Country and Adirondacks.<\/p>\n

Quieter weather builds back in for all Sunday and Monday with highs in the 50s and 60s.<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0Mattydale Fire Department volunteer arrested in connection to 2017 criminal sex act with boy<\/a><\/p>\n

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the public’s help in an investigation in Mattydale. Donald Bender Jr., 61, is charged with third-degree criminal sexual act. The arrest stems from a 2017 sexual encounter between a man who was 16 at the time and Bender.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Cazenovia, Morrisville-Eaton school boards to review merger plans<\/a><\/p>\n

Both districts are currently in the midst of a state-supported feasibility study.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0How former inmates say violent culture could change inside New York\u2019s prisons<\/a><\/p>\n

As assaults between inmates\u00a0and correction officers\u00a0continue to rise over the last 10 years in New York, advocates and former inmates say\u00a0each side involved needs to change to reverse the trend. Robert\u00a0\u201cLuca\u201d\u00a0Lucas, who\u00a0was incarcerated for seven years\u00a0and\u00a0founded Voice\u00a0of\u00a0Da\u00a0Voiceless, a nonprofit that supports\u00a0inmates\u00a0and those who have been released, says unsubstantiated allegations fly from\u00a0both sides.\u00a0<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0Lack of disciplinary action by DOCCS leads to an \u2018oppressive environment\u2019 for inmates<\/a><\/p>\n

Data\u00a0and disciplinary records\u00a0show\u00a0New York state\u00a0correction officers\u00a0rarely lose their jobs\u00a0as a result of\u00a0abusing\u00a0the incarcerated, which former inmates say can create an environment that\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0allow them to speak\u00a0out,\u00a0causing\u00a0tensions to rise inside.<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0A look back at nuclear fallout shelters in New York<\/a><\/p>\n

Sunday is the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster. A nuclear power plant in Ukraine in the former Soviet Union exploded, causing 31 direct deaths and nearly 100,000 more as a result of radiation. Nuclear energy, whether used for power or as a weapon, is a reason so many communities built fallout shelters. While those buildings are no longer used in that capacity, they are still standing.<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0Trump dispatches Witkoff and Kushner to Pakistan for new talks with Iran’s foreign minister<\/a><\/p>\n
