The New York Giants<\/a> traded back into the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft on Friday to select wide receiver Malachi Fields with the 74th overall selection.<\/p>\n

Why?<\/p>\n

GM Joe Schoen referred to Fields as a \u201cpower forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCertainly a different body type than we currently have. Adding that was something we had talked about doing. We weren\u2019t going to force it unless the value was at the right spot, and obviously being 6-4\u00bd, 218 pounds, the catch radius and athleticism that he displays was attractive.<\/p>\n

Head coach John Harbaugh said the Giants had a second-round grade on Fields.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wanted this player, and we got him,\u201d Harbaugh said.<\/p>\n

The Giants were expected to select a wide receiver at some point in the draft, and had been linked to Arizona State\u2019s Jordyn Tyson in Round 1.<\/p>\n

Malik Nabers<\/a> is coming off a bad knee injury and his availability\/effectiveness at the start of the 2026 season is in question. Darius Slayton<\/a>, Darnell Mooney<\/a>, and Calvin Austin<\/a> are all useful players, but all three may not be Giants after the 2026 season.<\/p>\n
