Detectives in Brooklyn<\/a> are on the hunt for the suspect who shot and killed a teenager on Friday afternoon.\n<\/p>\n

Police said the homicide happened at about 4:16 p.m. on April 24 inside a grocery store at 909 Livonia Ave., at Ashford Street, in New Lots.\n<\/p>\n

Officers from the 75th Precinct<\/a> responded to the location after receiving a 911 call about a man shot. When they arrived, they found the victim \u2014 Marquise Byfield, 16, of Dumont Avenue in Brooklyn \u2014 shot once in the torso and another time in the groin area.<\/p>\n

EMS rushed him to Brookdale University Hospital in critical condition; medical staff would later pronounce Byfield dead.\n<\/p>\n

So far, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation, police said.\n<\/p>\n

Through April 19, the 75th Precinct reported five homicides year-to-date<\/a>, two more than at the same point last year, and 15 shootings, up from 11 in 2025.<\/p>\n
