Olivia Rodrigo<\/a> surprised a New York City crowd over the weekend!<\/p>\n The Grammy winner delivered a surprise performance of her new single “Drop Dead” for an unsuspecting audience during an open mic night at Pete’s Candy Store in N.Y.C. on Sunday, April 26.<\/p>\n Known for showcasing emerging talent, Pete’s Candy Store hosted an open mic on April 26 \u2014 and one of the fellow performers didn’t even know Rodrigo would make an appearance.<\/p>\n A musician who goes by Industry Monk performed at the open mic and shared a video to Instagram<\/a>, noting that he was “unaware I was opening for Olivia Rodrigo at Pete’s Candy Store today.”<\/p>\n Rodrigo then took the stage to sing “Drop Dead” in a casual outfit alongside an acoustic guitarist.<\/p>\n “Drop Dead” was released with a music video filmed at the Palace of Versailles on April 17 as the lead single off Rodrigo’s upcoming third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love.<\/p>\n In a recent interview with British Vogue<\/a>, Rodrigo spoke about facing “a creative challenge to write from a joyful place” for the new album.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen you’re experiencing that you’re connected to someone, or feeling really good, you’re not in your head thinking about bittersweet poems!\u201d said Rodrigo.
