{"id":211623,"date":"2026-04-27T19:59:15","date_gmt":"2026-04-27T19:59:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/211623\/"},"modified":"2026-04-27T19:59:15","modified_gmt":"2026-04-27T19:59:15","slug":"nyc-anchor-recounts-chaotic-white-house-correspondents-dinner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/211623\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC anchor recounts chaotic White House Correspondents\u2019 Dinner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) \u2013 Just as salads hit the table at <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/articles\/white-house-correspondents-dinner-shooting-094047817.html\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:Saturday\u2019s White House Correspondents\u2019 Dinner;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Saturday\u2019s White House Correspondents\u2019 Dinner<\/a>, gunshots rang out and chaos ensued.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">PIX11 News\u2019 Dan Mannarino heard the gunshots very clearly and ducked down before the news had even reached the front of the room, where <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/pix11.com\/ap-political\/ap-trumps-many-upcoming-large-public-events-may-present-fresh-security-challenges-after-latest-attack\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:President Donald Trump;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">President Donald Trump<\/a> sat on stage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/pix11.com\/news\/politics\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:More News: Politics;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\"> More News: Politics <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWe heard the shots and immediately hit the floor, as did the tables around us,\u201d Mannarino said. \u201cPeople were dropping their plates, and dropping their utensils \u2026 know it was very clear where I was sitting that these were gunshots.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Mannarino describes the hectic moments after a gunman charged the premises, trying to penetrate the hotel ballroom where Trump and Cabinet secretaries were assembled.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">They were spirited out unharmed and the crowd of 2,300 hunkered down in gasps, confusion, broken plates and spilled wine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">After Mannarino heard the gunshots, a ripple effect spread as people at the front of the room started catching wind of the potential danger.
