\u201cShe was definitely in love,\u201d recalls Anastassiya Andrianova, a candidate for a House seat in the North Dakota House of Representatives. \u201cThey were planning their lives together.\u201d<\/p>\n
Friends say Liz Conmy, a state representative there, and Dr. Joseph Cass, a retired Mayo Clinic orthopedic surgeon, were partners starting a new chapter in their lives.<\/p>\n
Until Saturday, when a plane crash that ended in tragedy. <\/p>\n
\u201cYou know, it was very hard,\u201d says Adam Goldwyn, Andrianova\u2019s husband, and the state Democratic Chair. \u201cObviously, on me as a person who knew her and loved her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Just before noon, a Beechcraft plane crashed in Southbrook Park, moments after takeoff from Crystal Airport.<\/p>\n
Cass, piloting the aircraft, and Conmy, his passenger, were killed.<\/p>\n
The NTSB is investigating the cause of the crash.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson says the plane has been removed to a secure area for inspection.<\/p>\n
Authorities say a preliminary NTSB report is expected in the next 30 days.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the crash has left many people in North Dakota shaken, including Andrianova and Goldwyn, who are not only marriage partners but are also Conmy\u2019s neighbors in Fargo.<\/p>\n
RELATED: Friends, work colleagues remembering North Dakota lawmaker and partner killed in Brooklyn Park plane crash<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cI was texting with Liz around 11:11 am,\u201d Goldwyn says. \u201cThen, I got a phone call from her seatmate, Gretchen Dobervich, maybe around three o\u2019clock, that the plane had crashed, and Liz and Joe had died.\u201d<\/p>\n Conmy, a mother of four adult children, was preparing to run for her second term in the legislature. She was known for crossing the aisle, and much more. <\/p>\n RELATED: North Dakota lawmaker 1 of 2 killed in plane crash near Crystal Airport<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cShe really did light up the room,\u201d Andrianova says. \u201cShe was always so positive; she always made everyone laugh. She just had this little engine running constantly.\u201d<\/p>\n Friends say Cass was a meticulous and experienced pilot.<\/p>\n Retired from Mayo Clinic, he was honored as Teacher of the Year in 2017, instructing orthopedic surgery residents.<\/p>\n \u201cMy motivation is pretty transparent,\u201d he would say. \u201cSomeday, the trainees we teach are going to take care of us.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cHe was also a really friendly guy, also, you know, very kind of unique, wicked sense of humor,\u201d Andrianova remembers. \u201cHe was good for her.\u201d<\/p>\n The couple loved flying and lake life in Minnesota \u2014 but they could also be good neighbors: shoveling a driveway, fixing a gutter \u2014 or even helping to build a snowman.<\/p>\n \u201cLast time I saw them, we had a big snowstorm a couple of weeks ago,\u201d Andrianova says. \u201cYou know, they were out shoveling snow, just throwing snowballs at each other.
