DE QUEEN, Ark. (KATV) — A former De Queen police officer is behind bars after he was investigated for sexual assault, the city’s police department confirmed.

Police say their investigation into officer Ty Phillips began after an adult woman was booked into the Sevier County Jail and Detention Center on Friday, April 24. While being booked, the woman disclosed an alleged sexual assault by Phillips.

The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office immediately began a criminal investigation into Phillips. That investigation ended with Phillips’ immediate termination by Chief of Police Scott Simmons and his arrest on Saturday, April 25.

Authorities say that Phillips is being held by a neighboring law enforcement agency on the anticipated felony charge of sexual assault in the third degree.

Phillips is set to appear before Circuit Judge Bryan Chesshir in Pike County Circuit Court on Monday.

DE QUEEN, Ark.
