{"id":212424,"date":"2026-04-28T10:19:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-28T10:19:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/212424\/"},"modified":"2026-04-28T10:19:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-28T10:19:08","slug":"new-york-biz-titans-need-to-speak-up-and-publicly-defend-the-city-from-the-socialist-mob","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/212424\/","title":{"rendered":"New York biz titans need to speak up and publicly defend the city from the socialist mob"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With each passing day, Gotham \u2014 supposedly, the world capital of capitalism \u2014 seems to be marching ever closer to . . . socialism.<\/p>\n<p>All while its corporate titans remain quiet as church mice.<\/p>\n<p>If they want to save their businesses, the economy \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/27\/us-news\/communists-urge-comrade-mamdani-to-bolt-dem-party-join-them-in-creating-new-workers-party\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">heck, New York!<\/a> \u2014 it\u2019s long past time they speak out. Publicly.<\/p>\n<p>For years, these leaders (with a few exceptions, like Bill Ackman) have taken a \u201cgo-along-to-get-along\u201d approach.<\/p>\n<p>Even the Partnership for New York City has long placed its friendship with the administration over the interests of its corporate members.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps business leaders fear retribution from City Hall or Albany. Maybe they\u2019ve got deals with government officials they don\u2019t want to disturb \u2014 or want to keep under the radar.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tMore From\t\t\t\t\t\t\tPost Editorial Board<\/p>\n<p>For too long they have wrongly thought that dealing behind the scenes works. <\/p>\n<p>But we have seen for more than a decade now the creep, creep, creep of progressivism and now socialism take hold in New York City. What they have been doing is plainly not working.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Under socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani and weak-kneed Gov. Kathy Hochul, the situation is growing dire.<\/p>\n<p>The business leaders need to realize: <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/10\/us-news\/mamdani-pushed-combined-23b-worth-of-new-nyc-taxes-in-just-his-first-100-days\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Zo\u2019s tax-the-rich mob is coming<\/a> for . . . them.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGet opinions and commentary from our columnists\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSubscribe to our daily Post Opinion newsletter!\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Look at how <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/24\/us-news\/mamdani-doubles-down-on-ken-griffin-attack-despite-citadels-threat-to-pull-6-billion-nyc-project\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hizzoner proudly doxxed<\/a> billionaire Ken Griffin \u2014 using his $238 million penthouse as a backdrop in a \u201ctax the rich\u201d video unveiling Hochul\u2019s pied-\u00e0-terre tax.<\/p>\n<p>That was thoughtless and juvenile posturing by Mamdani: For starters, Citadel and its employees paid nearly $2.3 billion in city and state taxes over the past five years, plus Ken Griffin has made $650 million in philanthropic contributions \u2014 to cancer care, charter-school education, museums and cultural arts in the city.<\/p>\n<p>Zo\u2019s zinger could wind up costing the city 6,000 temporary construction and 15,000 permanent jobs, plus $6 billion in construction costs if Griffin decides to cancel an office tower he\u2019s planning.<\/p>\n<p>Ex-Gov.
