President Trump brought up both Saturday night\u2019s shooting at the White House Correspondents\u2019 Dinner<\/a> and Russian President Vladimir Putin<\/a> within minutes of King Charles III and Queen Camilla arriving at the White House Monday to kick off their historic state visit.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis shooting \u2026\u201d Trump appeared to tell the British king after exchanging greetings on the South Lawn, lip reader Nicola Hickling told the Daily Mail<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d rather not stand about here too long,\u201d Charles supposedly quipped in response<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel I shouldn\u2019t be here.\u201d<\/p>\n

President Trump then asked if Charles was OK before saying: \u201cIt\u2019s not a good thing,\u201d according to Hickling.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t prepared, but now I am prepared,\u201d the commander-in-chief continued before turning to the Russian tyrant.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo right now, I am talking to Putin,\u201d the president told the king. \u201cHe wants war.\u201d<\/p>\n

Charles, in Hickling\u2019s account, tried to shut the matter down, saying: \u201cWe will discuss that later.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump pressed the topic \u2013 warning: \u201cI\u2019ve got a feeling \u2026\u00a0if he did what he said, he will wipe out the population.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnother time,\u201d Charles repeated before the conversation shifted to Trump\u2019s $400 million White House ballroom project<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can see right through there,\u201d Trump said. \u201cRight the way through to the ballroom. Would you like to see?\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sure you\u2019ll show us,\u201d Charles said, prompting Trump to respond: \u201cThat\u2019s right, you\u2019re right.\u201d<\/p>\n

The first couple then invited the royals into the White House after Charles asked: \u201cWhich way do we go?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going this way,\u201d Trump said, indicating the executive mansion.<\/p>\n

The couples enjoyed a traditional English afternoon tea<\/a> \u2013 complete with tiny sandwiches, mini-cakes and loose-leaf tea poured through a strainer.\u00a0<\/p>\n

After departing the White House, the king and queen attended a massive garden party at the British ambassador\u2019s residence.\u00a0<\/p>\n

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) were among the high-profile politicians in attendance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

British Olympic diver Tom Daley jetted in from Los Angeles for the bash and bonded with the king over knitting.<\/p>\n

\u201cKnitting is my outlet for all my creativity, my mindfulness and my meditation and the King has tried knitting many a time,\u201d Daley told Britiain\u2019s Press Association.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe said he tried knitting when he was eight and he wasn\u2019t very good but he said he might pick it back up \u2013 he knows it\u2019s very good for mental health.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I want to try and get it back into the school curriculum and maybe he can help me do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The royal couple is embarking on a four-day state visit to America<\/a>, the highlights of which include the king\u2019s address to a joint meeting of Congress on Tuesday followed by a White House state dinner.<\/p>\n
