Virginia native Charlotte Moss has built a distinguished career designing residences for an elite clientele<\/a>, with projects spanning the Hamptons, Manhattan\u2019s Upper East Side, and Palm Beach. Known for her refined, historically informed approach to interiors, Moss has also authored numerous books on design and entertaining\u2014more than ten to date\u2014and is a frequent lecturer on the decorative arts. Her forthcoming title, Charlotte Moss at Home in Virginia<\/a>, is expected to further explore her Southern roots and personal aesthetic.<\/p>\n

Now, a significant portion of her personal collection is heading to auction. On April 29, Stair Galleries will present over 200 lots from Moss\u2019s recently sold Upper East Side townhouse. Located on East 71st Street, the Queen Anne\u2013style residence dates to the 19th century and is attributed to architect architect F.T. Camp. The six-story home, which includes fourteen rooms and five bedrooms, also features a private garden, something few Manhattan houses can boast having. It was listed for $14.5 million with Sotheby\u2019s International Realty in 2023.<\/p>\n

The sale offers a rare glimpse into Moss\u2019s signature style: a layered, maximalist sensibility often associated with the legacy of tastemakers like Babe Paley. This renewed interest in traditional, richly detailed interiors is emerging (even as minimalist, downtown Carolyn Besette Kennedy style<\/a> retains its power further downtown).<\/p>\n

Stair Galleries\u2019 Hudson, New York location (previously the site of the widely-noted blockbuster Joan Didion estate auction<\/a> in 2022) will host the event, drawing collectors eager to acquire pieces that reflect Moss\u2019s polished, timeless vision.<\/p>\n
