Laura Linney<\/a> has set a Broadway return for 2027 with Manhattan Theatre Club<\/a>, with the stage and screen favorite set to star in a new play from David Hare<\/a> making its world premiere on the Main Stem,\u00a0Montauk. Daniel Sullivan<\/a> will direct, with performances to begin at the company’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre in spring 2027.<\/p>\n

The work follows two artists whose lives are entangled both professionally and romantically, ultimately exploring each person’s\u00a0reasons for creating art. Linney will star as writer Roxy Margaux, with further casting to be announced.<\/p>\n

The casting comes as MTC names Linney its inaugural Artist-in-Residence, an honor that commemorates Linney’s long relationship with the company. Her association with the group dates back to MTC’s\u00a01991\u00a0Beggars in the House of Plenty and 1992’s\u00a0Sight Unseen<\/a> Off-Broadway, and also includes the Broadway stagings of\u00a0Sight Unseen,\u00a0Time Stands Still<\/a>,\u00a0The Little Foxes<\/a>,\u00a0My Name is Lucy Barton<\/a>, and\u00a0Summer, 1976<\/a>. Sight Unseen,\u00a0Time Stands Still,\u00a0The Little Foxes, and\u00a0Summer, 1976 were all also directed by Sullivan.<\/p>\n

“Laura Linney is one of the most versatile actors of our time,” says MTC Artistic Director Nicki Hunter in a statement. “Her artistry, intelligence, and generosity make her the ideal partner for this brand-new initiative for MTC. We are thrilled to welcome her in this expanded capacity, cementing a commitment to working together in the future, and to collaborate on David Hare\u2019s Montauk, directed by Daniel Sullivan. We\u2019re proud to be giving this play its world premiere on Broadway.”<\/p>\n

Montauk joins a previously announced season that includes Jocelyn Bioh<\/a>‘s\u00a0School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play on Broadway and Nick Payne<\/a>‘s\u00a0The Unbelievers Off-Broadway.<\/p>\n
