One of the witnesses included an off-duty police officer who followed the suspect and relayed information to dispatchers, Libertini said.<\/p>\nLibertini said Bethel officers were at the scene within seconds and began tending to a 69-year-old man who had been stabbed \u201cat least twice,\u201d including once in the upper back and once in the wrist. As other officers arrived they went after the suspect, who was taken into custody in Dolan\u2019s Plaza, Libertini said. He was identified as 39-year-old Sean S. Vota of Northport, New York based on information from his driver\u2019s license, according to Libertini.<\/p>\n
Libertini said Vota was apprehended \u201cwithout incident\u201d and remained in police custody with charges pending.<\/p>\n
The victim was taken to Danbury Hospital. Libertini said his injuries did not appear life-threatening.<\/p>\n
\u201cDue to the quick response and actions of Bethel police dispatchers and responding officers, there is no threat to the public,\u201d Libertini said in a statement.<\/p>\n
