On Capitol Hill this afternoon, King Charles III delivered an optimistic assessment of American-British ties<\/a>, at what many consider to be the relationship\u2019s lowest point in decades. \u201cThe story of the United Kingdom and the United States is, at its heart, a story of reconciliation, renewal and remarkable partnership,\u201d Charles said in an address to Congress.<\/p>\n

The king\u2019s speech, the centerpiece of his first visit to the U.S. as Britain\u2019s monarch, was warmly welcomed by American lawmakers. He received multiple standing ovations and made several jokes that caused the House chamber to erupt in laughter, such as when he called the countries\u2019 shared history \u201ca tale of two Georges.\u201d<\/p>\n

Charles did not make direct reference to the current tensions between President Trump and Britain\u2019s prime minister, Keir Starmer. However, the king appeared to gently push back against Trump\u2019s criticisms of NATO and his skepticism regarding climate change. He also called for \u201cunyielding resolve\u201d in the defense of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Earlier today, Charles met privately with Trump \u2014 who might be his distant cousin<\/a> \u2014 and the two traded gifts<\/a>. Later this evening, Charles and Queen Camilla will attend a banquet in the White House\u2019s State Dining Room. Then, the royal couple is set to travel to New York and Virginia. Not on the itinerary: a reunion with Prince Harry<\/a>, the king\u2019s younger son who lives in the U.S.<\/p>\n

The Trump administration indicts James Comey, again<\/p>\n

The Justice Department secured a new indictment of James Comey, the former F.B.I. director, accusing him of making a threat against Trump. The charges center on a social media post showing seashells arranged to say \u201c86 47.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

An earlier indictment of Comey, on different accusations, was dismissed by a judge. Earlier today, a different judge ruled that Maurene Comey, a former federal prosecutor and a daughter of Comey, can sue the government over her firing<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Theatergoers turned out in droves to see \u201cProject Hail Mary,\u201d the sci-fi blockbuster starring Ryan Gosling as a schoolteacher on a mission to save Earth. Many loved the cozy-looking cardigan that Gosling wore during the movie. But they couldn\u2019t buy it off the rack. They had to knit it<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The sweater is based on a knitting template from the 1950s made by the Canadian company Mary Maxim, though the film\u2019s costumers changed the design from snarling wolves to a fox to better fit Gosling\u2019s character. The updated template sold out weeks ago, but you can still find tutorials online.<\/p>\n
