A deadly Oregon crash involving an illegal immigrant<\/a> truck driver is igniting fresh outrage over immigration policies<\/a> tied to Gov. Gavin Newsom and the 46th President of the United States,\u00a0Joe Biden, after federal agents re-arrested a suspect weeks after he was released by local officials.<\/p>\n

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed it took Rajinder Kumar, 32, into custody on Wednesday, April 22.<\/p>\n

He is now being held at the Northwest ICE Processing Center in Tacoma and is facing removal proceedings.<\/p>\n

Kumar\u00a0was initially arrested on charges of criminally negligent homicide and reckless endangering. His bail was later increased to $500,000. dhs.gov<\/p>\n

The relationship strengthened as Newsom became a \u201cloyal soldier\u201d for the Biden administration. REUTERS<\/p>\n

Kumar was arrested just days after he had been released on April 2, 2026, when Oregon politicians declined to cooperate with ICE, despite his involvement in a fatal crash months earlier.<\/p>\n

The incident dates back to Nov. 24, 2025, when Kumar\u2019s semi-truck jackknifed across both lanes of US Highway 20 in Deschutes County, Oregon.<\/p>\n

A Subaru Outback crashed into the blocked roadway, killing driver William Micah Carter, 25, and passenger Jennifer Lynn Lower, 24.<\/p>\n

On November 25, 2025,\u00a0William Micah Carter\u00a0(25) and\u00a0Jennifer Lynn Lower\u00a0(24) were killed on Highway 20 when their vehicle collided with a jackknifed semi-truck. dhs.gov<\/p>\n

The couple had been married just 16 days.<\/p>\n

Federal officials say Kumar entered the US illegally near Lukeville, Arizona, on Nov. 28, 2022, and was released into the country under the Biden administration<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He later received work authorization and obtained a commercial driver\u2019s license<\/a> in California under Newsom\u2019s administration.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis illegal alien was issued a CDL by Gavin Newsom\u2019s California. He then went on to recklessly drive a truck on America\u2019s highways and KILL two honeymooners,\u201d Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis<\/a> said in a statement. \u201cInstead of cooperating with ICE law enforcement, Oregon sanctuary politicians RELEASED him from jail back into American communities. Every time sanctuary politicians release a dangerous criminal illegal alien back into our communities, they are gambling with American lives. We are grateful to our ICE law enforcement officers who tracked this killer down to ensure he\u2019s permanently removed from America\u2019s highways and can never harm another American family again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Newsom has described himself as \u201call in\u201d for Biden, emphasizing that there was \u201cno daylight\u201d between them. AP<\/p>\n

The case is now being highlighted by DHS as an example of how federal and state-level immigration policies intersect, allowing Kumar to remain in the US and return to the streets after the fatal crash.<\/p>\n
