X account<\/a> shared a behind the scenes look at the preparations as Craig Harnden, the head chef at the British Embassy, detailed what the king and queen would be treated to during the event. <\/p>\nHarnden said they would be making approximately 2,500 to 3,000 sandwiches.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe calculation is based on experience and a little bit of luck,\u201d he said, adding that they would be making four types of sandwiches.<\/p>\n
What Was the Menu Served at King Charles’ Garden Party?<\/p>\n
The sandwiches consisted of a Scottish salmon sandwich with salmon, lemon butter and black pepper brown bread. <\/p>\n
There was also a roast beef and horseradish sandwich, which the chef noted is \u201cnot normally\u201d served in traditional afternoon tea flavors.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, we do have the first imports of British beef, which I\u2019m more than happy to use for this special occasion,\u201d he said. \u201cBend the rules a little bit.\u201d<\/p>\n
The third was a \u201cclassic\u201d egg mayonnaise sandwich with \u201cnicely boiled eggs, a little bit of mayonnaise, black pepper and salt.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lastly, they made a cucumber sandwich, which he called \u201cone of the simplest ones.\u201d However, he spiced things up by slightly pickling the cucumbers. <\/p>\n
\u201cSo the sweetness and acidity into the sandwich makes it a little bit more interesting,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
The kitchen also served scones, which were baked about an hour and a half before the service so they are \u201cfresh and warm.\u201d Alongside the baked goods, there was warm clotted cream, strawberry jam and \u201ca nice strawberry on top.\u201d<\/p>\n
