This designation recognizes Lincoln Hospital for its ongoing commitment to providing the South Bronx community with patient-centered, evidence-based lung cancer screenings.

“This national recognition is a testament to the dedication, collaboration, and compassion of our NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln Cancer Center team,” said Cristina Contreras, LMSW, MPA, FABC, DHL, NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln Chief Executive Officer. “Their continued commitment to excellence and patient-centered care ensures that our community receives the very best in prevention and treatment. This designation highlights our unwavering commitment to the early detection of and relentless pursuit of a world without lung cancer and places us at the forefront of the battle, offering hope to those in need.”

“Becoming a Lung Cancer Screening Center of Excellence acknowledges the amazing and life-saving work of our lung cancer screening team under the leadership of Dr. Alan Kantor,” said Lewis Marshall, MD, Chief Medical Officer, NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln. “As our Chair of Radiology Services, Dr. Kantor’s efforts in building a multidisciplinary, patient-centered approach to early detection, treatment, and follow-up care have been integral to earning this prestigious recognition. Low dose CT screening is currently the only proven method to detect lung cancer at the earliest, most treatable stage. We are thrilled to be part of this elite group, setting an example for responsible screening practices across the country.”

“We are proud to have NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln join the community of GO2 for Lung Cancer Centers of Excellence that is national in scope and local in impact,” said GO2 Chief Healthcare Delivery Officer, Joelle Fathi. “Across the U.S., the majority of people at risk for or living with lung cancer are served by a local community hospital near their home. Through the GO2 COE network of community hospitals, clinics, and academic and VA medical centers, we are fostering and supporting essential knowledge sharing and collaboration that brings national and global advancements in early detection, treatment and care close to home.”

According to GO2, an estimated 237,000 Americans are diagnosed with lung cancer annually, with most cancers found at an advanced stage of the disease. As a result, lung cancer has long been the leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S. By screening individuals at high risk for lung cancer using low dose computed tomography (LDCT), this disease can now be found early, when it is most treatable and even curable.

As a designated GO2 Center of Excellence in lung cancer screening, NYC Health + Hospital/Lincoln is committed to the principles of patient-centered communication and decision making across the entire care pathway. That means that the hospital implements screening in accordance with current evidence and clinical guidelines developed by professional bodies such as the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), and coordinate patient follow-up, diagnostics, and transition to treatment through a multidisciplinary clinical process. Lincoln Hospital offers lung cancer screening for people who are between the ages of 50 and 80, have a history of heavy smoking, are currently using tobacco or stopped within the past 15 years, and have no signs or symptoms of underlying lung cancer.

If you would like to receive more information about the Lung Cancer Screening Program or make an appointment, please call 718-579-5218.

###

MEDIA CONTACT: Natasha Burke, NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, 929-837-9166

#090-26

About NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln
NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, located in the South Bronx, is a 362-bed, Acute Care Level 1 Trauma Center and sees more than 168,000 emergency room visits and more than 600,000 outpatient visits annually.
