OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Manhattan Project National Historical Park\u2019s tenth anniversary is quickly approaching, and the park is celebrating with free events all over Oak Ridge. <\/p>\n

Thursday, April 30, several museums in the Secret City will open for free, welcoming visitors at no cost. The participating museums include the American Museum of Science and Energy<\/a>, Children\u2019s Museum of Oak Ridge<\/a>, K-25 Atomic History Center<\/a>, New Hope Center<\/a> and Oak Ridge History Museum<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Park staff and volunteers are also posting up at museums throughout the day between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. At 4 p.m., the park will hold a reception at the Oak Ridge Conference Center. There, visitors will hear from the National Park Service and the City of Oak Ridge. <\/p>\n

At 5 p.m., members<\/a> of the Registration with American Museum of Science and Energy (a $40 a year charge) will get to watch a free showing of Oppenheimer at the museum. <\/p>\n

Manhattan Project National Historical Park was established in November of 2015 through an agreement between the Department of Energy and National Park Service. It\u2019s aim is to protect three key World War II sites: Oak Ridge; Los Alamos, New Mexico; and Hanford, Washington. Those three sites are where the United States first developed atomic weapons. <\/p>\n
