1.\u00a0Local sales tax collections in New York up 5.1% in first quarter of 2026, report says<\/a><\/p>\n

Collections totaled $6.1 billion during the period between January and March, state Comptroller Tom DiNapoli said.<\/p>\n

The New York state Legislature on Wednesday passed an eighth state budget extender \u2014 now four weeks past the budget’s deadline \u2014 which was sent to Gov. Kathy Hochul for her signature. The extender runs through Monday, May 4, and funds state operations, including payroll.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0New development comes to downtown Ovid as village continues to rebuild from massive fire<\/a><\/p>\n

This newest redevelopment features a new general store-type business called Hearth and Harvest. Run by Ellen Eastman Smith, the store is one of the first new businesses to come to the village.<\/p>\n

SUNY Oswego says it is expanding on its downtown Syracuse campus with Micron building a massive facility in Central New York.<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0Hegseth testifies to House committee about Pentagon’s budget proposal, Iran war<\/a><\/p>\n

Democrats on the committee are expected to focus on the rising costs of the war, the drawdown of critical U.S. munitions and the\u00a0bombing of a school\u00a0that killed more than 165 people, many of them children, in the opening hours of the conflict.<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0Supreme Court voids majority Black congressional district in Louisiana, boosting Republican chances<\/a><\/p>\n
