Does Port Authority chief Kathryn Garcia really expect to hand over the metro region\u2019s road and transit system to World Cup elitists?\u00a0<\/p>\n

Garcia sounds even more socialist and anti-free enterprise than Mayor Zohran Mamdani as she urges New York and New Jersey commuters to work from home<\/a>, while advising out-of-towners to head to World Cup matches on public transportation \u2014 not Ubers, taxis or even rented limos.<\/p>\n

Folks spending over $5,000 per ticket are going to jump on New Jersey Transit? Right.<\/p>\n

NJ Transit hopes to score off the fat cats by charging $150<\/a> (nearly eight times its standard rate for the route) for round-trip train rides between Manhattan and MetLife Stadium.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, it\u2019s dissing regular NJ Transit riders by closing Penn Station to anyone not attending the World Cup for four hours before and three hours after each of the eight matches, including the final.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This, as Jersey leaders sniff that \u201cthe cost for the eight matches will not be borne by our regular commuters\u201d \u2014 as if being unable to take your normal train wasn\u2019t a cost.<\/p>\n

Equally dubious is Team Mamdani\u2019s plan<\/a> for free mass watch parties in Rock Center, Brooklyn Bridge Park and spots in other three boroughs, which supposedly will attract other tourists and so boost local businesses.<\/p>\n

You think they did a whiff of market research on that? <\/p>\n

Or maybe they realize it\u2019s a loser, and that\u2019s why the mayor wants to cancel the normal street fairs and other city public summer fun: You won\u2019t have any other choices . . . which, come to think of it, is how socialism works. <\/p>\n
