Two drivers struck and killed a 40-year-old man as he walked across a Bronx road over the weekend, NYPD officials said Monday.<\/p>\n
The unidentified man was crossing Bruckner Boulevard from east to west near East 138th Street in Mott Haven around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, according to police. A tractor-trailer driver struck him outside of a crosswalk, and he fell to the pavement with severe body trauma, officials said.<\/p>\n
Almost immediately after the man was struck, the NYPD said, the driver of a 2015 Honda CR-V taxi struck him while he was still on the ground.<\/p>\n
Police said emergency medical workers responded to the incident and took the man to Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n
The taxi driver, a 61-year-old man, stayed on the scene, but the tractor-trailer driver fled, officials said.<\/p>\n
Police said they had made no arrests in the case as of Monday morning, and the investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n
NYPD data<\/a> shows traffic deaths citywide are down roughly 5% so far this year through April 26, compared to the same period last year.
