For the second time in 10 weeks, former Alabama<\/a> wide receiver John Metchie III<\/a> has been traded in the NFL.<\/p>\n

The New York Jets are acquiring Metchie and a sixth-round pick the 2027 NFL Draft from the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for cornerback Michael Carter II and a seventh-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.<\/p>\n

While neither team has announced the trade, Newsday<\/a>, NFL Network<\/a> and ESPN reported<\/a> the deal on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

At 6-2, Philadelphia leads the NFC East. At 1-7, New York is last in the AFC East. <\/p>\n

In August, the Eagles acquired Metchie<\/a> and a 2026 sixth-round draft pick from the Houston Texans for tight end Harrison Bryant and a 2026 fifth-round draft pick.<\/p>\n

The Jets\u2019 leading receiver, Garrett Wilson, has missed the past two games because of a hyperextended knee. New York is on its open date this week before playing the Cleveland Browns on Nov. 9.<\/p>\n

While Wilson has 36 receptions for 395 yards and four touchdowns in 2025, the next wide receiver on the Jets\u2019 production list is Josh Reynolds, who has 11 receptions for 101 yards.<\/p>\n

As a reserve with the Eagles, Metchie has four receptions on four targets for 18 yards. In seven games, he has 31 offensive snaps and 30 special-teams plays, including seven kickoff returns for a 17.1-yard average.<\/p>\n

Last season, Metchie played in 13 regular-season games, including his first three NFL starts, and caught 24 passes for 254 yards and one touchdown. He followed that with six receptions for 63 yards in two playoff games.<\/p>\n

Metchie joined Houston as a second-round selection in the 2022 NFL Draft after catching 151 passes for 2,058 yards and 14 touchdowns in his final two seasons at Alabama. But just before the start of his first training camp, Metchie was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia<\/a>, and he spent his rookie season overcoming cancer instead of playing football.<\/p>\n

In his delayed debut, Metchie had 16 receptions for 158 yards in 16 regular-season games and three receptions for 44 yards in two postseason contests in the 2023 campaign.<\/p>\n
