The \u201cLights, Cameras, Queens!\u201d event took place in the Student Center, the event was hosted and entertained by drag queen Sasha Devaro and performed by drag queens, Stardustt and Alice in Chains. Drag Queens lip sang, danced and even invited students on stage to perform with them.<\/p>\n

One person that was called up on stage, Amelie Silva (Freshman, Chemistry), shared how she was called up on stage to dance with other students.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, my God. I was lowkey nervous. I\u2019m usually used to being on stage,\u201d Silva said. \u201cSo it was more like, oh, I\u2019m back on stage. What do I do? And then once the music started, it\u2019s like, \u2018okay, right\u2019, And then I just started.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said that this was her first drag show and how she\u2019s always wanted to go to one.<\/p>\n

\u201cI started watching RuPul\u2019s Drag Show when I was first in the closet and stuff and I was like, wow, these people are so cool. I just saw all of them being up on the stage, being creative, being themselves. \u2029And I was like, \u2018Wow, that\u2019s so cool,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cI was like, \u201cI want to go to a Drag show one day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mayerli Samayoa (Freshman, Psychology) shared how this was her first drag show.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the first time I\u2019ve ever seen drag queens and it\u2019s really cool,\u201d Samayoa said. \u201cIt was honestly very exciting because it was very energetic and I love the vibes.\u201d<\/p>\n

She shares what her favorite and most interactive parts of the show were.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy favorite part would either be the in-between talkings or just in general, the musical numbers [are] so amazing, because there was so much energy from everyone,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Samayoa said that she felt like she could be herself and how more people should attend these events as it is a safe place for everyone.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like more people should come to these because they\u2019re free and\u2026it is a safe space for everyone,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Jude Abejar (Freshman, Public Health) shared how important events like these are for young people and why they should consider attending them.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are super important events to allow young people alike to be able to participate and witness parts of a community they might not have ever seen yet. This was the first drag queen event I\u2019ve ever attended and I thought it was really cool and especially inclusive,\u201d Abejar said.<\/p>\n

She shares who her favorite Drag Queen was and her favorite part of the night.<\/p>\n

\u201cI loved Sasha the most, my favorite part was when she asked for volunteers to come up to lip-sync and dance,\u201d she said. \u201cMy favorite takeaway of the show was the queens\u2019 constant engagement with the audience!\u201d<\/p>\n

Towards the end of the event Sasha Devaro reminded the audience to keep the LGBTQ+ community safe as they are currently being targeted.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis event absolutely created a safe space for me and allowed me to open up to new people too. I would love to see and participate in more events like this,\u201d Abejar said.<\/p>\n
