Caleb A. Barnett<\/a> takes over the role of the Genie in the Broadway production of Aladdin<\/a>\u00a0beginning May 5\u00a0at the New Amsterdam Theatre.<\/p>\n

Barnett, who made his Broadway debut as the Genie standby in 2023, now\u00a0steps into the role full-time. The 25-year-old actor succeeds long-time Genie Michael James Scott, who played his
\nfinal performance May 3.<\/p>\n

Barnett has also been seen in regional productions of Kinky Boots, The Rocky Horror Show, Sweeney Todd, and Rock of Ages.<\/p>\n

Aladdin recently became the 14th longest-running show in
\nBroadway history. There have been 11 productions on four
\ncontinents welcoming
\nover 22 million guests.<\/p>\n

The current Broadway cast is led by Rodney Ingram<\/a> in the title role, Sonya Balsara<\/a> as
\nJasmine, and Dennis Stowe<\/a> as Jafar. The show also features Jacob
\nBen-Shmuel as Omar, Colt Prattes<\/a> as Kassim, JC Montgomery<\/a> as Sultan, Don
\n Darryl Rivera as Iago, and Ryan Gregory Thurman<\/a> as Babkak. Caleb A.
\nBarnett, Wes Hart<\/a>, and Marcus M. Martin<\/a>
\n stand by for several principals.<\/p>\n

The stage production, which expands the 90-minute film into a two-act
\n format, has music by Alan Menken<\/a>, lyrics by the late Howard Ashman<\/a> and
\nTim Rice<\/a>, and a book and additional lyrics by Chad Beguelin<\/a>. Casey Nicholaw<\/a>
\ndirects and choreographs.<\/p>\n

Aladdin opened at the New Amsterdam March 20, 2014,
\nfollowing previews that began February 26. The musical was nominated for
\n five 2014 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. James Monroe Iglehart<\/a>
\nwon the Tony for his performance as the Genie.<\/p>\n

Aladdin is designed by Tony-winning scenic designer Bob
\nCrowley, Tony-winning lighting designer Natasha Katz<\/a>, Tony-winning
\ncostume designer Gregg Barnes<\/a>, and sound designer Ken Travis<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The production was originally produced by Thomas Schumacher. The creative team also includes illusion designer Jim Steinmeyer<\/a>,
\nhair designer Josh Marquette<\/a>, and makeup designer Milagros
\nMedina-Cerdeira. The music team is headed by music supervisor and music
\n director Michael Kosarin<\/a>, who also created the vocal and incidental
\nmusic arrangements, joined by orchestrator Danny Troob<\/a> and dance music
\narranger Glen Kelly<\/a>. John MacInnis<\/a> is the associate choreographer, Jason
\n Trubitt is the production supervisor, and Myriah Bash is the general
\nmanager.<\/p>\n
