The New York Giants<\/a> have made some big additions to their defense this offseason, positioning the unit to take a step forward in 2026 under a new coaching staff. With the summer nearing, it appears another move could be on the horizon.<\/p>\n

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the Giants are \u201cvery much in the mix\u201d to sign defensive tackle DJ Reader following the signings of Shelby Harris<\/a> and Leki Fotu<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Jason La Canfora of Sports Illustrated<\/a> recently reported that while there is plenty of competition for Reader\u2019s services, the expectation as of now is that head coach John Harbaugh will lure him to New York<\/a>.<\/p>\n

New York could\u2019ve made a run at Calais Campbell<\/a>, who recently signed with the Baltimore Ravens<\/a>. However, The Athletic\u2019s Dan Duggan<\/a> reported that Harbaugh and the Giants coaching staff were never in on him.<\/p>\n

Following the Dexter Lawrence<\/a> trade, the Giants\u2019 depth chart on the defensive interior is led by Fotu, Harris, and Darius Alexander<\/a>. The club also used a sixth-round pick on defensive tackle Bobby Jamison-Travis.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s at least a lot more depth on the defensive line than New York had a few weeks ago, but the lack of impact talent and reliance on rotational-tier players makes it an obvious weakness on the Giants\u2019 defense. Given the playing time New York can offer Reader, it\u2019s reasonable to think a deal could be reached if the Giants are willing to meet his contractual demands.<\/p>\n
