{"id":220921,"date":"2026-05-05T18:03:44","date_gmt":"2026-05-05T18:03:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/220921\/"},"modified":"2026-05-05T18:03:44","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T18:03:44","slug":"manhattan-fire-in-inwood-leaves-investigators-stumped-nbc-new-york","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/220921\/","title":{"rendered":"Manhattan fire in Inwood leaves investigators stumped \u2013 NBC New York"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More questions than answers remained Tuesday in the case of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnewyork.com\/manhattan\/fire-inwood-today-how-many-dead-cause\/6497817\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">fire that zoomed up a Manhattan apartment building&#8217;s lone stairwell a day ago,<\/a> killing three people and critically hurting others.<\/p>\n<p>The names of the victims in Monday&#8217;s fire at the six-story building on Dyckman Street haven&#8217;t been released. <\/p>\n<p>Other families, meanwhile, are still crowded at hospitals, sitting by the bedsides of badly burned loved ones. <\/p>\n<p>Five people who survived the initial fire were said to be fighting for their lives, and family members say several needed intubation. There was no immediate update on Tuesday on the conditions of those most severely hurt. <\/p>\n<p>No other details on those individuals have been released.<\/p>\n<p>People were seen trying to escape the burning building using fire escapes during the peak of the blaze. In addition to the lives lost and those badly hurt, a firefighter and five other civilians sustained minor injuries.<\/p>\n<p>More than 200 fire and EMS personnel ultimately responded.<\/p>\n<p>Fire officials say the apartments with closed doors in the building sustained little damage, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnewyork.com\/bronx\/bronx-fire-update-belmont-fdny\/6494052\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">echoing a public service announcement made little more than a week ago after another deadly fire, that time in the Bronx.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The cause of the Inwood fire is under investigation.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">At 12:35 a.m. Monday, the FDNY received a call for a fire at 207 Dyckman Street in Manhattan. Units arrived within three minutes and observed fire on the first floor of the six-story building.
