NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) \u2014 Five new schools<\/a> are coming to New York City this year, opening up more options in neighborhoods \u201cwith historical overcrowding.\u201d<\/p>\n

The new public schools<\/a> will open primarily in Queens and the Bronx, intended to meet the diverse needs of each neighborhood and increase access for students with developmental and emotional needs, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Public Schools Chancellor Kamar Samuels announced on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

This fall, we\u2019ll deliver it with five new public schools that serve students of all ages, expand access for students with disabilities and put the arts at the center of education,\u201d said Mamdani.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur new schools reflect a bold commitment to expanding access to high-quality, rigorous learning experiences for every student, in every neighborhood,\u201d echoed Samuels.<\/p>\n

New NYC public schools opening in fall<\/p>\n

Academy of Cultural Excellence<\/p>\n

Opening in Long Island City, Queens, this school will serve pre-K through fifth grade in District 30. The school is expected to center student voices through project-based learning, arts integration and culturally responsive practices. It will temporarily open at 11-11 40 Ave. in Long Island City before moving to its permanent address at 23-10 43 Ave. in 2028.<\/p>\n

Bronx School of Arts & Exploration<\/p>\n

This school will serve students with disabilities from kindergarten through eighth grade in the Highbridge\/South Crotona neighborhoods. Education is project-based and arts-centered, merging academics with visual and performing arts. Its main site will be located at 1717 Fulton Ave. with off-site support at 1020 Anderson Ave.<\/p>\n

The Bronx School of Hip-Hop<\/p>\n

This new high school<\/a> at 1600 Webster Ave. in Claremont will open in District 9 and will use hip-hop culture as a foundation for instruction. Students will study emceeing, DJing, graffiti, break dancing and knowledge of self. Coursework will also include audio production, digital media and financial literacy.<\/p>\n

Queens Academy for Innovative Learning<\/p>\n

Opening in Astoria, this District 75 school will serve students with disabilities in sixth through twelfth grades. It will focus on project-based learning, technology integration and individualized support, including STEM exploration, community-based instruction and work-based learning.<\/p>\n

West Q Elementary<\/p>\n

This new Woodside school will serve kindergarten through fifth grade in District 24, combining literacy and math lessons with project-based learning. The school emphasizes hands-on investigation, community-connected projects and multilingualism as an asset for student success.<\/p>\n
