For one clue as to why Gov. Kathy Hochul\u2019s favorability rating is at its lowest point in a year, look no further than at her lame comments Tuesday on Bruce Blakeman\u2019s meeting with President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n
Her challenger is \u201cgoing to keep kowtowing\u201d to the prez, hissed Hochul; \u201cBlakeman\u2019s groveling at Trump\u2019s feet \u2014 getting his marching orders to jack up costs,\u201d echoed a spokesman.<\/p>\n
By contrast, when she met Trump, she boasted, her goal was to \u201ctry to find a way to get [federal] money turned back on.\u201d <\/p>\n
Huh? How is that not \u201cgroveling\u201d?<\/p>\n
And what a coincidence that Trump in that meeting pressed her to greenlight a natural-gas pipeline \u2014 which she soon did just that.<\/p>\n
That is, she got her \u201cmarching orders\u201d to bring down costs \u2014 because that\u2019s what the president\u2019s program is all about. <\/p>\n
And, by the way, Nassau County under Blakeman are doing a heck of a lot better than the state as a whole under Hochul.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s simply good for New York when its leaders find ways to work with the president, as even socialist boy Mayor Zohran Mamdani understands<\/a>. <\/p>\n \t\t\tMore From\t\t\t\t\t\t\tPost Editorial Board<\/p>\n Yet Hochul seems to think her best path to re-election is to dump on Trump, as if he\u2019s the cause of all New York\u2019s problems.<\/p>\n New York residents don\u2019t buy that, which is why the Siena poll found <\/a>just 41% of them giving her a favorable rating, vs. 46% unfavorable.<\/p>\n They realize Dems dominate government here, and have run New York as a one-party state for years.<\/p>\n Yet more think the state\u2019s on the wrong track (48%) than the right one (38%). Housing, energy costs and, of course, taxes especially are through the roof.<\/p>\n And while Hochul (when not preaching Orange Man Bad) claims she\u2019s tackling \u201caffordability,\u201d she\u2019s already broken her vow not to raise taxes three times this year \u2014 by pushing a pied-\u00e0-terre tax<\/a>, hitting businesses<\/a> on R&D expenses and OK\u2019ing new pension giveaways<\/a> that will force local taxes higher.<\/p>\n
