Queen Camilla<\/a> is said to have given King Charles<\/a> a new confidence<\/a> as he takes on his role as monarch, and according to biographer Gyles Brandreth, their relationship brings to mind another successful royal couple<\/a>. In his book Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait, the author wrote that observing Camilla has convinced him that she\u2019ll be \u201cthe co-author\u201d of The King\u2019s success, just like Prince Philip was for Queen Elizabeth<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Brandreth worked alongside the late Duke of Edinburgh<\/a> with the National Playing Fields Association, now known as Fields Trust, beginning in the 1970s, and wrote that he \u201cliked his style.\u201d<\/p>\n

Much like Queen Camilla with her royal work<\/a>, Prince Philip \u201cwanted to make a difference where others, often, only make a noise,\u201d Brandreth wrote. \u201cHe wasn\u2019t one for honeyed words and empty gestures.\u201d<\/p>\n

When discussing Prince Philip, Brandreth\u2014who was writing the section of his book shortly after Queen Elizabeth\u2019s death<\/a> in 2022\u2014added, \u201cUntil this week I thought he was irreplaceable. I was wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n

While watching Queen Camilla interact with the public alongside King Charles in the days following the late Queen’s passing, Brandreth mused that he saw his \u201cold boss (and hero) reborn\u2014in Camilla.\u201d<\/p>\n

He wrote that while Prince Philip was Queen Elizabeth’s \u201cstrength and stay<\/a>,\u201d Queen Camilla provides that same role for King Charles. \u201cShe is fundamental to the architecture of his life,\u201d the biographer wrote, calling The Queen King Charles\u2019s \u201cgood companion and best friend.\u201d<\/p>\n

The late duke \u201calways knew he was the support act,\u201d Brandreth wrote, noting that Queen Camilla takes on the same role. \u201cLike Prince Philip, Camilla has accepted her destiny,\u201d Brandreth continued. \u201cShe did not seek it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reflecting on The Queen’s 75th birthday<\/a> lunch in 2022, which Brandreth hosted alongside Dame Joanna Lumley, the author shared that Camilla made a touching reference to her late father-in-law in a speech.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Duke of Edinburgh\u2019s philosophy was clear,\u201d she told the guests, quoting Prince Philip by saying, \u201cLook up and look out, say less, do more\u2014and get on with the job.\u201d Poignantly, she added, \u201cAnd that is just what I intend to do.\u201d<\/p>\n
