In January, Brooklyn<\/a>, 27, launched a scathing attack on his parents<\/a>, claiming that he had been \u201ccontrolled by a family that value public promotion above all else\u201d.<\/p>\n Appearing on Emma Grede\u2019s Aspire podcast, matriarch Victoria, 52, opened up about how she decides what to make part of \u201cBrand Beckham\u201d<\/a>, as Brooklyn called it, and what to keep personal.<\/p>\n \u201cDo you know what, I think that our children have had a very different upbringing to myself and David,<\/a>\u201d she told Grede. \u201cI think the world is also a very different place now as to what it was when they were younger.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve always tried to protect the children as much as we can. We\u2019ve always been very close; communication is key.\u201d<\/p>\n Mother-of-four Victoria then said that the family were far more \u201ctraditional\u201d than many would assume, adding: \u201cBeing very close is really, really important to us.<\/p>\n \u201cUltimately, we want the kids to be hard working, kind. I think that I\u2019ve always wanted to be the best mum that I could be and look after the kids, but I feel that it\u2019s been part of my job to really help them fulfil their full potential. For them to recognise what their sense of purpose is.\u201d<\/p>\n Referencing her son Cruz<\/a> and his burgeoning musical career<\/a>, Victoria explained: \u201cAnything that I could do to support him, to encourage and to help him, that\u2019s my job as his mum. It\u2019s never about being pushy or forcing. It\u2019s being there to support.\u201d<\/p>\n The Independent has contacted Brooklyn\u2019s representatives for comment.<\/p>\n The comments appear to be an attempt from Victoria to counter messages shared by Brooklyn, who shocked the world earlier this year with a six-page written statement hitting out at his parents over their treatment of him and wife Nicola Peltz, 31, who he married in 2022.<\/p>\n Brooklyn, who has reportedly not seen his family since May 2025, claimed that he had \u201dbeen controlled by my parents for most of my life\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cI grew up with overwhelming anxiety. For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared\u2026 My wife and I do not want a life shaped by image, press, or manipulation.
